I have to admit I was one of the 'tradionalists' up until a few months ago. I decided to get a Kindle for Christmas this year and I am after ploughing through 2 books already, normally I would not finish one of them for atleast a week. It is very convenient for travel and being on the go, but with that said I do love to hold an actual book in my hand all the same.

They both have their merrits and like you said Tommy, I don't see why people argue about it a lot.

This is pretty much exactly how I feel. The Kindle is purely for convenience. I haven't got the space in my house to store the 3,000 or so books that the Kindle can hold.

Financially, for someone who reads two or three books a day, it's also a much cheaper system for me.

That being said, I haven't turned away from "real" books. The smell of a bookshop still gets me a little giddy and I love nothing more than spending a few hours wandering around a library.

"The Kindle: NOT an all or nothing device."

I *hate* people who eat with their mouth full. :)

However, excellent points. I sometimes feel that certain people may look to be discriminated against. Half the time you'd have to be a Civil Liberties lawyer to notice small slips of the tongue and the likes. Like getting a survey in school about religion:

Tick your religion:

Islam [ ] Christianity [ ]

How often do you go to mass?
_______

(I lolled a lot at it, but didn't really feel it was intentionally discriminatory :D)

It's what really bugs me about religion... Something crazy like 80% of the teachings are the same (if worded slightly differently) and yet it causes major world division.

Also on the books side I would be a traditionalist but I can the appeal of a kindle especially for people who travel a lot.

The population of the US is around 340 mil, so 3300 drowning in tubs is an entirely possible number. Sadly, the majority would be young Americans.

The VF article was good. I debated not reading it, since I'm traveling with a small child tomorrow and didn't need any additional increase in blood pressure :)

Hi Rich --

Yeah, the milk jug comment was made tongue-in-cheek, but I question why you think the Smart Cover isn't suited for use with a keyboard. Are you aware that there's also a third position for the smart cover, as illustrated here? http://www.myallo.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/IMG_0682.jpg

(not my image)

I have some experience with netbooks, and in general I find them to be clunky, slow and they just feel cheap. Not to mention the fact that their keyboard is prohibitively small.

I get that opinions and usage differ, but I'm going to stick with my original assessment that the iPad and an external keyboard is an excellent combination for writers.
