Quick Thought
by Tommy
There’s a lot of talk among the tech community over which will prove more significant and valuable in the long run: Twitter or Facebook. I was listening to Mark Little (@MarkLittleNews) talking about how Twitter was proving so useful in Japan. It reminded me of the anger displayed by many on Facebook, who said that Japan didn’t deserve our sympathy because the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbour.
Now, not 100% of messages on Facebook were bigoted, in the same way that not all of the messages on Twitter were helpful or perfect either. I do think it shows well on Twitter that it’s the one that’s a big part of the revolutions, natural disasters etc.
Niches are forming: Facebook is for keeping up with personal friends, sharing pictures of parties with friends and playing Farmville or other games. Ultimately, they’re all frivolous.
Twitter is a bit less personal, but I think that’s the point. It’s not who you are, it’s what you can offer.
