Thoughts on Photo 365
by Tommy
I’ve been working on Photo 365 for almost three weeks now and a couple of things have become apparent to me.
1. Wasting
It’s similar to blogging in the way that for it to be interesting, you have to be interesting. If I spend the day being a lazy bum well then my daily photo isn’t going to be particularly interesting, which in turn reflects on me. Therefore, it encourages me to get out and see more and do more which is quite good. The same concept applies to the blog, which means that as a person I’m not content with just lazing around – I always need to be doing something or working on some project or another. I need to have something to show for myself. It’s not something I’d consider a bad quality either.
2. You see more
When I went to Boston, I could’ve either gotten a taxi to the rendezvous point, or I could’ve opted for public transport. I went for the latter for the simple reason that if I’d gotten in the taxi, knowing me, I’d have stuck headphones in my ear and daydreamed for the entire journey, seeing none of the city. I went for the public transport because I knew I couldn’t do that – I knew I’d have to stay alert and take the right exits, subways and such, which would mean I’d see more.
I think that I’m a very observant person. I’ve always been fascinated by the smallest things (I was that kid who’d turn off the light switch, giggle, turn it back on, giggle and repeat as long as necessary until another form of amusement came my way). Being observant doing a 365 is immensely useful because it enables you pick up on the small things.
3. Improving
I have to thank Mum for a lot of this – as she’s a wizard behind the lens. I can feel myself improving as a photographer doing the project; not content with the normal angles, I’ll look for new ones, or funny little quirks to insert into the photograph, or other such eccentricities to make my photos unique. I’ve also learnt a lot about iPhoto and, for the want of a better word, ‘post-production’.
In short, I’m glad I started doing Photo 365 and I don’t see myself stopping any time soon. As always, you can view the project at this link
