Midterm

by Tommy

The last symptom of the pig flu – a wicked sore throat – is finally beginning to fade. I’m still not back to school today because the doctor says I’m still contagious. He can call me what he likes though; I’m feeling good.

So that means I get one more day arseing around at home away from everyone, being subjected to more torture by salad and going on drum binges until I slip off the stool in a rhythmically-induced stupor.

I’ve also been reading. I read the latest CHERUB book, and also finished the second Henderson’s Boys, which had been lying on the kitchen table like a neglected middle child for nigh on a month. Sickness: gets stuff done.

This is what happens though: I don’t like constantly reading books because I end up picking up something I don’t like and that frustrates me so I put it down, so I stop reading, which is the same outcome as if I’d never read constantly! Instead, I like to wait for a good book to present itself to me by way of a new one in a series being released or getting a recommendation from my cousin, who I suspect has read every book ever published.

With today also comes the wonderful news that the Autumn term of school has come to a close, so I’ve a week off until the Winter one starts.

How will I spend it? Well, the same way as I’ve spent the last week, minus the coughing and lying on the couch feeling as if I’d like nothing better to crawl into myself and stop existing; because that’d mean I wouldn’t feel rotten. So we’re left with the gratuitous sleeping, the drumming orgies and the reading, but not too much because then I’d get frustrated.

Also, I will hopefully be going with Dad and Mom to Hungary. Hungary’s culture is quite different to ours so it’s always fun to go over there. Dad’s been over there at least once a month for as long as living memory because he works there. He’s usually gone Monday-Thursday every second or third week. I haven’t been over with him since 2007, so it’ll be fun. I’ll be sure to get videos of the cool places I’ll seek out – including a rather kickass opera house there may be some show on.
