Culture?

This is the first segment of The Wizard of Oz I’ve ever seen. Thanks to watching it, I’ve also discovered where the phrase pay no attention to the man behind the curtain comes from!

So, title of this post. Should I have seen this film by now? Am I missing anything significant by not having done so already? I can probably find a copy at the weekend and watch it if needs be. Yay or nay?

    Definite YAY!

It’s great if only to see how far film has come in the interim, or to see how great it was for its time. It’s a bit of fun with some catchy tunes. Also one of those films that should never be remade. Definitely pick it up.

As someone who was not exposed to much pop-”culture” as a child (my parents had some pretty strict restrictions on what we could watch on TV and how much TV we could watch), I think that there is some value in catching up on things that were missed – if only to “get” pop-culture references. Admittedly, I’ve never seen all of the Wizard of Oz. As a result, I didn’t know what my friends were talking about when they said that our math teacher resembled a flying monkey. I’ve since done some research, and they were right.
If I have to vote, I say yay.
