We’ve never had something like the Celtic Tiger before. Irish people were never as wealthy as they were during it. Back in the 50s, people considered a holiday to be a week in Ballybunion during the summer, whereas we now have apartments in Antigua!

I mean, the famine really instilled a sense of.. (have to be really careful here..) tightpocketed-ness about us. Before the Celtic Tiger, who can claim they were particularly zealous with money?

Celtic Tiger found Irish people actually wealthy, maybe not with money to throw around, but certainly well off.

It’s one of those nice debates that have two real sides to it.

Yeah, that’s a good example about how the recession has made everyone more appreciative of their jobs. Appreciation is always good :P
